I. A very rare, collectible, Marlin saddle
gun, you just don’t see for sale more than (maybe) once a year! And the
pistol-grip versions just seem to feel so much better in your hands than the
old English-style, Winchester-style, straight stocks. So, this is your once a
year offering of the coveted Marlin 1894PG—and your once a year chance to own
one!
II. This gun is
really in beautiful condition (especially the stocks). And speaking of the
stocks, have you noticed the higher-grade-than-average grain patterns in the
rich walnut? There are some miniscule, ultra-slight imperfections, here and
there in the bluing, that you really have to look hard to see. The notable wear
in the bluing is only on the lever and the loading gate. On the top of the
receiver, where a peep sight was installed, there is a remnant of adhesive.
There is of course bluing wear on the inside from use. I gave the barrel a
moderate cleaning, which it didn’t really need, and found no rust or pitting
inside. The lands & grooves shine bright.
III. How about
some good news? The Consignor stated that he is the original owner and only
fired a couple of boxes or so of ammo through it. From the looks of things, I
believe him. All mechanical actions are precise and crisp! And wow, that sweet
trigger pull could probably help you win shooting matches with your friends!
This magnum .44 feels solid, stable, and secure in your hands! It feels so
good—you just want to go out and shoot the Hell out of something!
IV. The photos really do a
pretty good job of depicting the great, overall condition. Only what is in the
photos comes with this gun. I know my close-up photos sometimes bite me in the
ass, but I really want people to see what they’re buying! I use intense
lighting that can give some parts a kind-of "grainy" texture—but,
they truly don’t look that way with the naked eye! Again, close-ups biting my
butt! Also, there may be some lint, microscopic dust, and a few hairs (probably
my shop-dog’s hairs) in the close-ups—they’re not scratches, etc. There may
also be a little discoloration in one or more photos because I keep parts wiped
down with a KleenBore silicone gun cloth. Note: Any white stuff you see is most
likely Remington Teflon dry spray.
V. So what can
you say about value when you have virtually no comparable sales to look at? And
forget about what the Blue Book tells you—they have no accounting for the
rareness of this piece (see paragraph one again)! For the price we’re asking it
sure looks like a much better-than-average value! And although this gun is
(moderately) used, I’m conservatively rating it between “Fine” and “Excellent”
(see our “Firearm Standards” link under the “Additional Terms of Sale” tab
above). The gun definitely leans toward “Excellent”!
VI. NOTE ABOUT CONSIGNORS: I know
most of you will just ignore this like I’m talking to a wall, but it remains a
fact—Consignors can be a fickle bunch when it comes to selling their stuff.
Hell, I’ve had them read my (wonderful) descriptions and become re-sold on
their items! At any time, if there are no bids, the Consignors can tell
me to raise prices or even cancel the auctions! Believe me, I do this way more
often than I’d like to. However, as soon as there is a bid, the auctions can’t
be stopped, and someone (like you) is going to get that/this gun, etc.! So (if
you haven’t guessed it) the moral of this short-story is once you’ve made the
decision to buy—don’t wait until the last minute to bid. Now, if you’ve read
this far, you know you want it—so bid! Thanks
